Which snake should i buy first ?
Buying your first snake
There are lots of things to consider when choosing your first snake soo many to choose from but it’s probably best to focus on the 2 most popular starter snakes these being Corn snakes and Royal Pythons as these are what I keep myself
Things to consider
How much time do you have to dedicate to your new snake some require slightly higher maintenance than others
Are you able to store a supply of frozen rodents or source them locally easily on an as and when needed basis?
How much space do you have you are going to need a minimum of 2ft and probably a maximum of 4ft dependent on the size of the snake
Can you afford the equipment and setup improperly kept snakes are sick snakes if you can’t afford to buy the correct equipment seriously reconsider your decision to own a snake!
Corn Snake Pros
- Corn snakes come in a wide variety of colours
- Corn snakes are easy to care for
- Corn snakes are relatively inexpensive to feed
- Corn snakes are readily available
Corn Snake Cons
· Initially very fidgety as hatchlings but settle as they grow
· Very addictive when you have one you will likely want more!
Ball Python Pros
- A very beautiful snake
- Very docile: ball up when threatened
- Relatively small in size: rarely more than four feet long
Ball Python Cons
- Can be very picky eaters especially during breeding season
- Often don't tolerate temperature variations well
- Very Addictive when you have one you will want more!
